I went to expo collision center to freshen up my car including the cracks on my rear bumper. They gave me an estimate with an entire rear bumper replacement. When I dropped off the car, I asked them to keep my old rear bumper on the side so I can pick it up with the car after it was done. He immediately went on the defensive mode and said "Why do you need it, you don't need it". I obviously wanted my old rear bumper back because I want to make sure the I actually got a new one from him. They literally called me back 5 minutes later and tell me that they can patch up my old bumper so I wouldn't need a new one. A sound very suspicious doesn’t it? Then they said that it'll save me $50 if I did it that way. I agreed to it and he sent me a second estimate with only $20 off with even more suspicious body work quotes. I called them the very next morning so I can go through the 2nd estimate with them. They got on the defense mode again and literally started yelling at me. Ever since when does the customer not have the right to go over the estimate with whom they’re doing business with? They hung up and I re-called to find out what I’m paying for the work they’re doing. This place is very shady and there are red flags raised everywhere. Don’t deal with them but if you do, PLEASE MAKE SURE that you tell them to keep the old car parts with them so you can pick it up when you pick up your car. This will assure you that YOU ARE ACTUALLY PAYING FOR THE NEW PARTS. |

On Sept. 10 2008 I had a serious accident. I was rear ended by a car traveling at 60 mph or so. My van was completely stopped and I was on the brakes at the time of the accident. Despite the fact that I was driving a large heavy duty commercial van (2006 GMC Savana Diesel 3500) and the other driver was driving a small Toyota Corolla, my GMC van was subjected to a very strong impact and sustained serious damage to the front end, the rear end, the side body panels and most importantly, serious damage to the vehicle frame. The frame was bent is several places. The floor of the van was bent out of shape as well. Needless to say that the Toyota Corolla went straight to the junk yard. Thankfully nobody was killed. In cases like this insurance companies usually call it a total loss. In this case however since this van was kind of expensive (I bought it $35,500.00 couple years ago) they decided to repair it. Since the van was to be repaired, I wanted to make absolutely sure that the repairs would be done correctly. I was very concerned that I would end up with a vehicle with serious problems due to the extensive damage and difficult repairs that were required. I asked couple body shops that were involved in doing frame repairs on trucks in the South Bay and they both told me that they would stretch the frame and repair the van as well as they could but I was not satisfied at all with their repair proposals. I knew right away that if I decided to take my van to one of these shops I would indeed end up with a problematic vehicle after the repairs. I decided to call my local GMC dealer (Power Chevrolet) and I asked them where they take their GMC vans or trucks when they need frame work. They immediately recommended Jim & Jack's Collision Center in El Segundo. I figured that if the dealer takes their cars there, I would have much better chances to get my van repaired correctly at that shop than in any other body shop. I decided therefore to go with Jim & Jack's. When I first visited their facility in El Segundo it was immediately obvious that this is a well organized body shop. I am an engineer with extensive experience in various technical areas and a critical eye. Despite that, I immediately felt comfortable with this shop. To make a long story short, Jim & Jacks did an excellent job on the car. They performed all the necessary repairs in a timely fashion. The body work and the paint job were excellent. They also insisted that the insurance company replace the frame with a new one because the old frame could not be properly repaired. They did hold their ground on this important area for me therefore and they supported my interest instead of that of the insurance company. Most shops would simply stretch the frame and call it a day even if the frame was not perfect. I am grateful therefore that they handled this important issue correctly. They had to take the whole vehicle apart and put it back together in order to change the frame. They removed the engine, the transmission, the whole drive train, the suspension, the fuel system, the cooling system, the brakes, electrical, etc. They took the van completely apart and they put it back together on a new frame. I was expecting to hear all kinds of noises after I picked up the car, to discover missing parts, missing screws, etc. To my great surprise, the van drove and sounded better than ever before!!! As I drove the car more and more I discovered that not only they put the car back together correctly without even one screw missing, but that they went well out of their way to make sure that I would receive a trouble-free vehicle. They even replaced parts of the suspension, the tow bar and other parts that other body shops would not normally replace. These parts had minor damage as a result of the impact. As a result, I am absolutely ecstatic about this shop and I highly recommend it to anyone that needs to repair their car independent of whether that car is a Mercedes, a BMW, a Porsche, a GMC van like in my case or any other car. This is a shop that is characterized by true professionalism which is kind of hard to find in the body shop business. They have extensive modern facilities, well trained personnel and most importantly, a management team that puts the customer first and that goes out of their way to make sure that the customer is satisfied. I am not an easy person to satisfy given my technical background and my attention to detail but I am definitely absolutely ecstatic about this shop. Finally I have found a body shop in South Bay that I can trust to do the work correctly. Regards, Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, Ph.D. Mechanical / Aerospace Engineer |
